leadership development programme for disabled people
and people with long term health conditions. Building on some of the information from the leadership development days and aims to share a range of experiences and perspectives. Sync100 is the online development programme and people can sign up now to receive regular e-bulletins and to join a disability/leadership focused Basecamp. Sync100 will run until June 2009 and any disabled person interested in leadership and working in, or aspiring to work in the creative and cultural industries is able to join. Sync20 will be a bespoke training programme for 20 people selected from the Sync100 group. We really want to get the information out to as many people as possible so that we don’t just reach the ‘usual suspects’ but also reach people who are in mainstream contexts and who might have a different viewpoint. People can get more information, read the different perspectives of those currently involved and also join up themselves at the website –

The Bill Kirby Traineeship
Increasing the accessibility of museum
careers to disabled and deaf people.
Funding for a work-placement at Colchester and Ipswich Museum
Service and an MA in Museum Studies at the University of Leicester.
Research shows that there are very low numbers of disabled and
Deaf people working in museums and galleries. Since 1998 the
Museums Association's (MA) Diversify scheme has offered training
opportunities to prepare people of African, Caribbean, Asian
or Chinese descent for work in UK museums and galleries. Now
they offer training opportunities to disabled and Deaf people
in partnership with the University of Leicester and Colchester
Museums.
The Bill Kirby Traineeship includes a Distance Learning Masters
in Museum Studies at the University of Leicester and a six month
work-placement at Colchester and Ipswich Museum Service.
The traineeship will pay the cost of the course fees for the
Distance Learning Masters in Museum Studies at the University
of Leicester from October 2008. In addition, a training bursary
will be paid to the successful candidate during their work-placement.
However, participants will need to fund their living expenses
while undertaking the Masters (by distance learning).
If you would like to find out more please visit
www.museumsassociation.org/diversify
or call 0207 426 6955.
